Captains Blog-Texas State Fair

Well, I survived the Texas heat. I was in Dallas for the weekend for the annual Texas State Fair.

I learned the fair has roots leading all the way back to 1886. It is a month long celebration of everything Texas. It is larger than any other fair I've been to (I've seen my fair share) and pretty fun.

I was setup just behind the W Dallas. It is a beautiful property with a really friendly staff. This is one of the first of the W Residences. About half the property is a hotel space and the other half is permanent residences. It's a great concept- who wouldn't want to live in a W Hotel?

You may also notice a picture or two from Southern Methodist University. I had the opportunity to swing by campus and take a look around. For any of you who have not seen this campus it is gorgeous. From the buildings to the landscape to the people, this is a really pretty place to visit.

Captains Blog- San Diego

After the long trek across America, it was nice to see some familiar faces. I spent a weekend in San Diego, California. I started my career with Starwood at the W San Diego and I was now back for the San Diego Film Festival. The event took place over the span of the week with most of the events based at the W San Diego. They were all private parties so be sure to work on getting your name on the list for next year.

While at the film festival, a film crew from Starwood followed me around. The feeling I have experienced over the last six months that I am on some crazy reality show was completely exacerbated by the camera crew following me around. We were hoping to get some footage to use for various promotional pieces. Thanks to everyone who came by and soaked up the lime light.

Captains Log- Virginia to California

It's been a while since my last post. I've been busy traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast. I began my journey in Virginia. We had a groundbreaking in Chantilly, VA. Starting the building of another aloft property was the perfect way to start my cross country journey.

From Virginia I went to West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and then I stopped in Colorado for a few days. The Jeep needed some maintenance and this gave me the perfect opportunity to explore an area near where I used to live. I visited Crested Butte, Gunnison, Telluride, and Durango. I was pleased to see Telluride in its full fall splendor, it was great to see the leaves changing. It was almost as pretty as Crested Butte.

When the Jeep was ready I hit the road again.  Next, I went to New Mexico, Arizona and ended up in San Diego. I was set to be there for the San Diego Film Festival. The event was a huge success and a lot of fun. I found myself with a film crew interviewing local celebrities and media. It was a constant struggle to maintain control of the interviews and I had to just say what the heck a few times.

It was a great road trip and an amazing opportunity to see America. I am now headed back to Dallas for the State Fair of Texas. Look for me around the W Hotel, Dallas.
